Playing violent computer games can make you care less about violence in real life, according to a study that was conducted by psychologist Bruce Bartholow from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
First, researchers monitored a group of people playing games which featured brutal killings and high-powered weapons. The second step was to show them pictures of real violence and they found that the participants were not as shocked as expected. Meanwhile, researchers monitored their brains. Next, the group saw disturbing pictures and then they were very shocked. The scientists recorded how the pictures affected the people by studying a certain type of brain activity, which measures the effect a picture has on the brain.
The researchers concluded that violent games are unhealthy for teenagers and other people because they truly make them more aggressive.
